We are seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to lead our team in the design of water and drainage projects. As a key member of our integrated team, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process from outline design through to detailed design, construction, and commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities:- Design Coordination: Coordinate internal and external activities associated with civil design, including drainage design, in line with client specifications and design standards.
- Design Solutions: Prepare design solutions at various stages of a project, including document management, monitoring, and protecting client relationships.
- Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with team leaders, senior managers, and clients to ensure effective communication on project matters.
- Technical Guidance: Contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.
- Collaboration: Work with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
- Commercial Awareness: Gain awareness of and familiarity with the commercial aspects of projects to develop commercial skills.
- Professional Development: Continually develop industry knowledge and stay up-to-date with innovations and developments.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by line managers, project managers, or the business.
- Quality and Environmental Control: Maintain quality and environmental control procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
- Client Relations: Establish and maintain good relations with clients, design teams, neighbors, and other stakeholders.
- Requirements: Possess substantial civil design experience, including drainage, gained through working on infrastructure projects within the UK water sector.
- Industry Knowledge: Have strong knowledge of the UK Water Industry and Sewer Sector Guidance standards for drainage design.
- Software Expertise: Be proficient in software design methods such as MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, and Civils3D, with knowledge of integration with BIM models desirable.
- Hydraulic Design Principles: Be technically competent in fundamental hydraulic design principles and able to apply manual calculation methods where software methods are not available.
- Line Management: Have experience in line management and performance management.
- Communication Skills: Possess excellent communication, organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Driving License: Hold a full UK driving license.
