Position Overview

The Panton Practice is seeking a proactive and innovative Emergency Care Paramedic Specialist to become a vital member of our growing multi-disciplinary team. We are in search of an individual with a solid background in managing acute minor health issues. Our practice utilizes a combination of e-Consultations, telephone triage, and same-day in-person appointments to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of independent practice and possess the confidence to conduct patient evaluations, utilize diagnostic tools such as ECGs, and initiate treatment protocols, with full support available from the duty team on the day of service.

This role requires excellent communication abilities, proficiency in IT, and the capacity to handle multiple tasks efficiently. The candidate should be comfortable working autonomously while also being an integral part of a supportive and adaptable team. Familiarity with SystmOne and experience within the NHS framework would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

This position is part-time and operates under a bank contract.

  • Comprising 4 Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 2 Paramedic Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses, and an HCA, all supported by our dedicated Reception and Administrative team

As part of the Bournemouth Central Primary Care Network, we are committed to evolving primary care by collaborating with local practices to provide extended services both during and outside of core hours. These services include Physiotherapy, Pharmacists, Social Prescribers, Health Coaches, and our Frailty Team.

We pride ourselves on being a teaching practice for GPs and allied health professionals, fostering a robust Multi-Disciplinary Team to enhance patient care. Each day presents unique challenges, contributing to a diverse and dynamic work environment. We maintain a friendly atmosphere with social events throughout the year.

Clinical Responsibilities

The primary focus of this role is to function as an autonomous practitioner, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a timely manner.

The post holder will be accountable for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and discharge of a varied patient demographic presenting with minor injuries and illnesses, operating independently and within established protocols.

Clinical Duties Include:

  • Acting as an Emergency Care Paramedic Specialist, showcasing advanced clinical skills and knowledge beyond traditional roles.
  • Triage patients effectively.
  • Conduct consultations via e-Consultation, telephone triage, or face-to-face, utilizing clinical judgment to diagnose, treat, refer, and/or discharge patients.
  • Make direct referrals to primary, secondary, and social services in accordance with local pathways and protocols.
  • Provide clinical guidance to Reception staff as necessary.
  • Ensure patients receive high-quality clinical care in a timely manner.
  • Administer medications as required, adhering to Patient Group Directions.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation for every patient interaction.
  • Collaborate as an autonomous practitioner within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams to meet patient needs.

Where applicable, offer supervision and mentorship to colleagues to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Communication Skills

Effectively communicate complex information regarding patient care to patients and their families.

Provide appropriate advice and information to patients, caregivers, and families.

Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health professionals, and operational staff to ensure coordinated service delivery.

Maintain accurate record-keeping in accordance with local policies and HCPC guidelines.

Promote effective communication networks within the organization and with partner organizations.

Educational and Personal Development

Comply with professional registration requirements.

Engage in defining a personal development plan to enhance clinical skills and ensure ongoing professional growth.

Complete all statutory and mandatory training as required.

Participate in performance reviews and appraisals.

Ensure all mandatory training is completed in line with organizational policy.

Additional Responsibilities

All staff are responsible for adhering to infection control policies to promote cleanliness and minimize infections. Proper hand hygiene practices must be followed to prevent the spread of infection. Staff must contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment and attend all mandatory training sessions.

This position requires an Enhanced Level Disclosure check with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) due to access to vulnerable individuals.
