Candidate Profile

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in managing high-risk patients.
  • Completion of advanced training in obstetric anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, and anaesthesia for airway surgery.

Desirable Criteria

  • Formal qualifications in teaching or training.
  • Accreditation in business skills.

Management and Audit

Essential Criteria

  • Thorough understanding of clinical governance principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Financial and budget management skills.
  • Effective workload organization and prioritization.
  • Ability to inspire and develop a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient IT skills and computer literacy.
  • Experience in conducting audits.

Desirable Criteria

  • Management qualifications or ongoing studies in management.
  • Evidence of service audit, design, or change management experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Completion of a specialist training program in anaesthesia or an equivalent qualification (CCT/CESR).
  • FRCA or equivalent qualification.
  • Special Interest Area (SIA) or equivalent fellowship in a relevant area.

Desirable Criteria

  • SIA/fellowship in perioperative medicine or CPET qualification.
  • Recent NHS experience within the last three years.
  • Experience as a Locum Consultant in an acute hospital setting.
  • Experience in the acute management of critically ill children.
  • Evidence of service audit, design, or change management.

Registration

Essential Criteria

  • Must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia (CCT/CESR) or, if a UK trainee, within six months of CCT at the time of interview.

Teaching

Essential Criteria

  • Stage 3 or equivalent level of training in Education and Training, including requirements to be a clinical supervisor.
  • Experience in teaching and training medical students, postgraduate trainees, and junior medical staff.

Desirable Criteria

  • Completion of training to become an Educational Supervisor.
