Job Overview

The successful candidate will join a comprehensive Chaplaincy Service within the Trust, responsible for delivering compassionate and skilled pastoral, spiritual, or religious support to patients, families, and staff across the organization, tailored to their specific faith backgrounds.

This role requires the individual to be authorized and accredited to practice as a leader in their respective faith or belief system, providing effective chaplaincy that embodies the values and behaviors outlined in the Trust's framework, serving as a role model for all personnel within the managed healthcare facilities.

The individual will collaborate with Group Chaplaincy Managers to ensure the provision of an efficient spiritual care service throughout the Trust, enhancing the experiences of both patients and staff in the delivery of spiritual and religious care.

The role allows for autonomy within the individual’s own faith group while maintaining the discretion to refer to the Chaplaincy Manager when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Offering pastoral, spiritual, and religious support to patients, clients, families, and those in distress.
  • Planning and facilitating religious services to address pastoral needs.
  • Leading appropriate worship services within the Trust and coordinating with volunteers to conduct religious rites for patients, such as holy communion and sacramental services.
  • Conducting funerals for both fetal and adult cases in collaboration with the Trust's Bereavement Service.
  • Supporting the Chaplaincy Managers in delivering pastoral care across the organization and within their designated areas.
  • Collaborating respectfully with other healthcare professionals.
  • Engaging as an active member of the Trust's Corporate Patient Services Department and providing input on developing policies.
  • Establishing connections with Trust ward staff and management.
  • Handling complex and sensitive information with care, including awareness of religious affiliations and providing support in challenging situations.
  • Adhering to the UKBHC code of conduct and Trust policies, procedures, and values.
  • Providing faith-specific on-call support under the supervision of senior staff as needed.
