The Pastoral Support Worker plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational and personal development of young people who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.
This role demands a strong commitment to assisting young people facing significant barriers to learning, helping them reach their full potential.
Identify, assess, and meet the support needs of students to ensure that equal access to high quality education is achieved.
* Work collaboratively with staff, including teachers, support workers, schools, and external agencies, to provide comprehensive support to students.
* Liaise with colleagues, parents, and other professionals regarding the academic and personal development of students.
* Utilise the college record keeping systems to provide regular feedback for students and parents/carers through written reports and review days.
* Supervise learners throughout the day, e.g. arrivals, departures, breaks, lunchtimes, and classroom support.
* Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of vigilance and care.
* Respond to crises or emergencies involving students, providing immediate support and following established protocols for safeguarding and intervention.
* Address and manage challenging behaviours effectively, employing de-escalation techniques and restorative practices.
* Build positive relationships with students, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development.
* Support students in developing social and emotional skills, resilience, and self-confidence through mentoring, coaching, and positive reinforcement.
* Support students in developing positive behaviours and coping strategies.
* Assess potential risks and ensure the safety and well-being of disengaged students during activities or interventions.
* Promote opportunities for student voice throughout the academic year.
* Support teachers with lesson preparation, classroom management, and the delivery of lessons.
* Provide tailored one-on-one and group support to students with diverse needs.
* Implement individualised support plans in collaboration with teaching staff and external agencies.
* Aid students in understanding and completing assignments, projects, and coursework.
* Coordinate and lead extracurricular activities, workshops, and events aimed at enhancing student engagement and well-being.
* Support students in transitioning into and out of the education project, including preparation for reintegration into mainstream education or transitioning to further education, employment, or training.
* Attend regular training and development opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
* The college has state of the art facilities including a hair and beauty salon and high quality restaurants.
