Position Overview

As an Autism Care Specialist, you will become part of a vibrant and nurturing service dedicated to delivering high-quality support and supervision.

Your responsibilities will encompass contributing to clinical evaluations and treatment planning, with a significant focus on assisting individuals and their families in comprehending the effects of autism on mental health challenges. You will have the chance to engage in service assessment and enhancement, collaborating closely with professionals across various health and social care sectors.

This role will have a broad geographical scope, with the specific base location to be determined upon hiring.

This position aligns with the Trust's dedication to the Transforming Care initiative in Somerset, which includes:

Providing clinical assistance for crisis intervention pathways for autistic individuals at risk of mental health detainment.

Overseeing the autism dynamic support register, including patients from outside the area.

Coordinating with emergency services and specialized forensic health professionals.

Offering specialized inpatient support for autistic individuals who have been admitted under mental health legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Evaluating patient documentation to verify autism diagnoses as necessary. Conducting assessments and treatment planning with clients diagnosed with autism and concurrent mental health issues, who may present risks to themselves or others. This work will take place in diverse environments and will require critical analysis of various scenarios. Facilitating the implementation of health and social care interventions in a manner that promotes inclusivity and acknowledges the need for reasonable accommodations. Engaging with clients, their families, emergency responders, and health and social care professionals. Supporting the crisis intervention process. Contributing to service enhancement initiatives. Collaborating with clients, families, emergency responders, and health and social care professionals.

Job Duties

Clinical Responsibilities

Under clinical supervision, you will:

Assist in assessments and treatment planning for clients with autism and concurrent mental health challenges, who may pose risks to themselves or others. This will involve working in various settings and making informed judgments based on a range of information.

Support the creation of risk management strategies.

Facilitate the delivery of health and social care interventions in a manner that promotes equality and respects diversity.

Effectively communicate and collaborate with clients, their families, and health and social care professionals.

Recognize and report any potential signs of harm, abuse, or neglect, including poor clinical practices, and take appropriate measures to safeguard clients.

Identify and report concerns regarding the safeguarding of vulnerable individuals.

Recognize personal limits of competence and seek assistance when necessary.

Assist team leaders and colleagues in service development initiatives as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

Completion of a relevant professional degree (dependent on profession).

Desirable Qualifications

Additional training pertinent to the role.

Essential Experience

A minimum of one year of experience working with autistic individuals. Experience in a clinical environment. Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency in producing written reports.

Must possess a valid driving license and access to transportation with appropriate business insurance to travel as needed.
