In this role, you will be part of the Respiratory/Critical Care Therapies Team, which includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Rehabilitation Support Specialists. Our mission is to provide essential therapy to adults hospitalized due to acute health issues, aiding them in regaining mobility and independence. Candidates should possess relevant experience in a healthcare environment, as this role involves direct interaction with patients, families, and multidisciplinary professionals.

Key Responsibilities

The detailed job description outlines the clinical, administrative, and communication responsibilities associated with this position. The primary focus will be to assist Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists in delivering therapeutic interventions to patients post-admission.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing delegated clinical tasks under the supervision of therapists, ensuring competency in all interventions.
  • Guiding patients and caregivers through rehabilitation activities as directed by therapists, promoting active participation in recovery.
  • Conducting joint home visits with therapists, providing support and supervision for treatment plans.
  • Preparing and maintaining therapy equipment for use during treatment sessions.

Administrative Duties

  • Contributing to the efficient operation of therapy areas by managing administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments and maintaining records.
  • Keeping accurate documentation of therapy sessions and assisting with departmental statistics.
  • Ensuring adequate stock levels of supplies within the therapy team.
  • Coordinating transport arrangements for patients as needed.

Communication Skills

  • Collaborating with Occupational and Physiotherapists regarding patient care and promptly reporting any changes in patient conditions.
  • Engaging effectively with multidisciplinary team members, caregivers, and external agencies involved in patient care.
  • Addressing communication barriers with patients and relatives, demonstrating sensitivity and understanding.
  • Managing interactions with patients and families experiencing high levels of emotional distress.

Working Environment

  • Be prepared for working in various settings, including patients' homes and hospital environments.
  • Understand that the role may involve exposure to challenging conditions, including bodily fluids and potentially infectious patients.
  • Adapt to a dynamic work environment with frequent interruptions from various stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths at grade C or above.
  • Strong reading and writing skills in English.

Desirable

  • Evidence of further education at NVQ level or higher.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting or hospital.
  • Experience working in a clinical capacity with individuals with disabilities or health conditions.

Desirable

  • Experience with elderly patients or those with chronic medical conditions.
  • Background in a Therapy Department collaborating with physiotherapy and occupational therapy teams.
  • Experience in social care or educational settings.
