Housing Coordinator Specialist

We are seeking a skilled professional to work closely with a Local Authority in Enfield to assist with the appointment of a Housing Coordinator, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at the client's discretion. The ideal candidate will have experience in preventing homelessness and effectively working with prevention tools, such as Homefinders Scheme and Discretionary Hardship Payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with prevention tools to prevent homelessness or facilitate a move into suitable, affordable accommodation.
  • Process housing and homelessness approaches within agreed timescales, adhering to relevant policies, procedures, legislation, case law, and guidance.
  • Arrange and undertake home visits to confirm homelessness, inspect housing standards/conditions, or verify a household's circumstances.
  • Liaise with the Market Management Team to secure accommodation where a housing duty is owed. Recommend access for households to the council's rent deposit scheme (Homefinders). Ensure the prompt cancellation of temporary accommodation when there is no longer a duty.
  • Competently interpret and explain complex legal matters to tenants, landlords, and other interested parties. Have a detailed understanding of security of tenure, including tenancy agreements, defending possession proceedings, harassment, illegal eviction, disrepair issues, and tenancy sustainment.

Requirements:

  • Ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
  • Experience of effectively preventing homelessness.
  • Experience of carrying out robust enquiries and competently deciding homelessness applications in accordance with Part VII Housing Act 1996 as amended.
