Head of Biological Production

Our client, a pioneering biotechnology firm located in Cambridgeshire, specializes in the advancement and production of innovative gene and cell therapies through a variety of development and manufacturing services.
Due to ongoing growth, they are in search of a Head of Production to oversee the manufacturing division of the organization.
Role OverviewThis is a prestigious position for a highly skilled professional with a solid history of managing biological or cellular production initiatives and facilitating technology transfer operations.
Key Responsibilities- Establishing long-term goals for the production department, ensuring alignment with the overall strategic objectives of the organization.
- Promoting operational excellence to reduce downtime and enhance productivity.
- Advancing and refining manufacturing processes and systems within the GMP cleanroom facilities.
- Assisting in technology transfer initiatives from the research and development teams.
- Leading improvements within the department as the facilities expand, through the assessment of current processes and team growth where necessary.
- Overseeing the daily operations of the GMP team and ensuring comprehensive staff training.
- Cultivating a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence, while initiating projects to optimize the manufacturing process, minimize waste, and uphold product quality.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Technology Transfer, Commercial, and Supply Chain, to facilitate product development and commercialization efforts.
- Evaluating production data and performance indicators to uncover opportunities for process enhancement and cost efficiency.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- BSc / MSc / PhD in Biology (or a related biological discipline) (preferred)
- Demonstrated success in leadership roles within biological production or operational management.
- Proficiency in internal technology transfer of R&D projects to production, including scale-up, process optimization, and stability assessment (mandatory)
- Previous experience in a GMP environment with a strong grasp of GMP documentation (mandatory)
- Proven leadership in managing production teams and overseeing manufacturing projects (mandatory)
- A background in molecular or cellular biology (ideal/preferred)
