About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Mortuary Support Officer to join our team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our mortuary services team, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of our mortuary services.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver mortuary service duties, including administrative tasks and support to mortuary staff
  • Provide a comprehensive administrative service for the Mortuary, including data entry, record-keeping, and correspondence
  • Act as Mortuary Receptionist, greeting visitors and handling inquiries
  • Assist with the booking in and release processes, both administratively and practically
  • Support tasks for the Bone Bank service, including data entry and record-keeping
  • Assist with cleaning and general housekeeping duties within the Mortuary
  • Support mortuary staff with viewing/identification requests

Requirements

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English at level C/4 or above
  • Level 3 qualification NVQ, 2 A-Levels, Apprenticeship or equivalent working experience in mortuary or funeral directors
  • Ability to follow and work to Standard Operating Procedures and Policy
  • Understanding of job content
  • Ability to work with other colleagues to improve and develop working practices

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with a range of Mortuary techniques
  • Previous NHS experience or funeral director experience

Skills and Knowledge

  • Keyboard and basic IT skills
  • Awareness of Health & Safety issues
  • Effective Communication skills, written and oral
  • Evidence of effective time management skills and with a methodical approach
  • Ability to plan and prioritize allocated work
  • Understanding of the need for confidentiality
