This is a remarkable opportunity for a driven individual looking to advance their career in scientific, research, and administrative management within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Imperial College London. You will acquire practical experience in overseeing national-level public health research at a prestigious academic institution while managing a diverse portfolio of grants.

A significant component of this portfolio is the MRC Centre for Environment and Health, which is supported by the Medical Research Council and maintains robust connections with the National Institute for Health Research Health Protection Research Units (NIHR HPRU) focused on Chemical and Radiation Threats and Hazards, as well as Environmental Exposures and Health. The Centre is acknowledged as a global leader in research and training regarding the health impacts of environmental pollutants and the application of this knowledge to shape national and international health policies.

In collaboration with both the Department Manager and the Centre Scientific Manager, you will deliver organizational and administrative assistance to a collection of related scientific grants, including those associated with the MRC Centre for Environment and Health.

Your responsibilities will encompass the financial and project oversight of multiple large-scale collaborative initiatives with external partners, ensuring adherence to timelines and deliverables. You will take the lead in developing, monitoring, and managing expenditures on grant budgets, reporting on scientific advancements to funding bodies, and coordinating the recruitment of essential personnel. Additionally, you will proactively identify funding opportunities and prepare grant applications.

In your role at the Centre, you will play a pivotal part in its coordination, working alongside the Scientific Manager to support the scientists engaged in delivering the Centre's research programs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Centre's Training Programme Coordinator to facilitate recruitment and career development initiatives for Centre PhD students, researchers, and fellows.
  • Organizing a series of public engagement events.
  • Maintaining effective communication both within the Centre and externally.
  • Facilitating collaborative activities and scientific meetings across the Centre and with key stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience in a scientific discipline relevant to the Centre's objectives.
  • A high level of motivation and exceptional administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management best practices, budget management, and the ability to produce concise written materials for scientific or administrative purposes under tight deadlines.
  • The capability to work independently across a diverse portfolio.
