Position Overview:

This role is part of the UKRI APRIL AI Hub, dedicated to advancing AI methodologies that foster innovation in semiconductor technologies, pioneering microchip designs, and system architectures. The initiative aims to produce electronics that are faster, more cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient. As one of nine UKRI funded AI Hubs, this project holds significant visibility on both national and international stages.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a skilled team of researchers and the APRIL operations team to develop cutting-edge AI capabilities, tools, and methodologies aimed at enhancing the efficiency of engineers in the design, development, and testing of sophisticated electronic devices and systems. The role specifically involves the creation and implementation of AI tools for electronics testing and verification, focusing on optimizing testing protocols and predicting testing needs. Research activities will include enhancing scenario coverage in certification tests across various devices and systems, as well as deciphering the underlying physical mechanisms of emerging beyond-CMOS technologies.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts in AI and electronics at various UK higher education institutions and industrial partners, ensuring that their research addresses contemporary challenges in the electronics sector.

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • A first-class undergraduate degree and a PhD in Electronics, AI, or a closely related field, with demonstrated experience in Electronics Testing and Verification or equivalent industry exposure.
  • Proficiency in AI tools for automating Electronics Testing and Verification, along with familiarity with electronics testing and instrumentation.
  • A proven research record in AI, particularly in the context of Electronics Testing and Verification or related fields.
  • Experience in delivering impactful research project outcomes within the realms of Electronics Testing and Verification and/or AI, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Adaptability and openness to new ideas, along with a proactive approach to tackling challenges and adjusting plans to meet evolving priorities.
