Role Overview
The Customer Analysis Workflows team is dedicated to delivering bioinformatic analyses to users through a variety of platforms, including software libraries and automated analysis systems.

Position Responsibilities
As a Bioinformatics Software Developer, you will report to the Associate Director of Bioinformatics Software Development. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of newly identified workflows and collaborating with team members to determine optimal presentation methods.
  • Working closely with various R&D teams to identify valuable analysis workflows for customers.
  • Adapting standard bioinformatics tools for long-read nanopore sequencing applications.
  • Identifying opportunities for tool development and collaborating with Algorithm Research colleagues to explore innovative solutions.
  • Defining and promoting best practices for open-source analysis software.
  • Staying informed about advancements in long-read data analysis and understanding end-user requirements through engagement with customer-facing teams.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess at least a Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) with a significant programming background in a high-level language. A PhD or relevant experience in DNA/RNA sequencing analysis is preferred.

Desired Skills and Experience
We are looking for candidates with:

  • Experience in software development on Debian-based Linux systems.
  • Expertise in bioinformatics workflows and familiarity with workflow management software, particularly Nextflow.
  • Practical experience handling sequencing data and exposure to common software tools such as samtools and bcftools.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including development, testing, and packaging.
  • A familiarity with continuous integration and deployment processes, along with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
