Our team comprises experts from diverse fields such as nanopore science, molecular biology, engineering, and informatics.
About the Role
The Customer Analysis Workflows team is integral to delivering bioinformatic insights to users through a variety of platforms, including software libraries and automated analyses on the EPI2ME platform.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Associate Director of Bioinformatics Software Development and will be tasked with:
- Taking ownership of newly identified workflows and collaborating with the team to determine optimal presentation methods.
- Working closely with various R&D teams to identify analysis workflows that can enhance customer experience.
- Adapting standard bioinformatics tools for long-read nanopore sequencing applications.
- Identifying areas for tool development and collaborating with Algorithm Research colleagues to explore innovative solutions.
- Defining and promoting best practices for ONT's open-source analysis software.
- Staying updated on advancements in long-read data analysis and understanding end-user requirements as identified by customer-facing teams.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess at least a Master's degree (or equivalent experience) with significant programming experience in a high-level language. A PhD or relevant experience in DNA/RNA sequencing analysis is preferred.
Desired Skills
We are looking for candidates with:
- Experience in software development on Debian-based Linux systems.
- Expertise in bioinformatics workflows and familiarity with workflow management software, particularly Nextflow.
- Practical experience in handling sequencing data and knowledge of common software tools such as samtools and bcftools.
- Strong programming skills in Python, including development, testing, and packaging.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment practices, along with a willingness to learn and adapt.
