Position Overview

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) oversees welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the largest public service department in the UK, our operations impact a significant portion of the population.

DWP leads the Cluster 3 Vetting initiative, providing National Security Vetting (NSV) services for staff and contractors requiring vetting within DWP and its partner organizations, including the Department of Health and Social Care, Food Standards Agency, Office of Rail and Road, OFWAT, OFGEM, and OFSTED. Our team adheres to the standards and guidelines set forth by His Majesty's Government (HMG) and collaborates with UK Security Vetting (UKSV) to ensure a consistent and effective service.

Additionally, the Cluster 3 Vetting Team works alongside the DWP Personnel Security team and broader Security & Data Protection teams to address insider threats within the organization.

Role Responsibilities

The Vetting Manager position is integral to the Cluster 3 Vetting Team, which falls under Security and Data Protection. In this role, you will deliver a security vetting service for the Department and its contractors, aligning with HMG standards and guidelines. You will also provide personnel security support across the Department.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting interviews with applicants for National Security Vetting (NSV) on sensitive personal matters.
  • Evaluating information from diverse sources to identify potential personnel security risks.
  • Making informed and impartial decisions based on established criteria to determine NSV eligibility.
  • Collaborating with DWP’s Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt (CFCD) Directorate to enhance recruitment processes through relationship building with recruitment teams and hiring managers.
  • Participating in projects aimed at managing insider threats.
  • Monitoring and reporting on vetting performance metrics, identifying challenges, and proposing process improvements.
  • Engaging with colleagues and stakeholders on security-related issues concerning vetting and personnel security.

  • Experience in a customer service environment, demonstrating strong customer service skills and knowledge.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex information and make challenging decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in a professional context.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, fostering relationships, and managing expectations.

  • Background in security vetting or investigative roles.
