Position Overview
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) plays a pivotal role in shaping welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policies across the UK. As the largest public service department in the UK, our operations reach a vast audience, impacting many lives.
Within DWP, the Cluster 3 Vetting Team is tasked with delivering the National Security Vetting (NSV) service for our department and associated partners, including key organizations such as the Department of Health and Social Care and OFSTED. Our team adheres to the highest standards set by His Majesty's Government (HMG) and collaborates closely with UK Security Vetting (UKSV) to ensure a reliable and uniform service.
Additionally, the Cluster 3 Vetting Team supports initiatives led by the DWP Personnel Security team and the broader Security & Data Protection teams to address insider threats effectively.
Role Responsibilities
The Vetting Manager position is integral to the Cluster 3 Vetting Team, which operates under the Security and Data Protection division. In this role, you will oversee the security vetting processes for the Department and its contractors, ensuring compliance with HMG standards. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting thorough interviews with candidates for National Security Vetting (NSV) on sensitive personal matters.
- Evaluating information from diverse sources to pinpoint personnel security vulnerabilities.
- Making informed and impartial decisions regarding NSV eligibility based on established criteria.
- Providing support to DWP’s Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt (CFCD) Directorate by fostering relationships with recruitment teams and hiring managers to enhance the recruitment workflow.
- Collaborating with colleagues on initiatives aimed at managing insider threats.
- Tracking and reporting on vetting performance metrics, identifying challenges, and proposing process enhancements.
- Engaging with stakeholders on security issues related to vetting and personnel security.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- Proven experience in a customer service-oriented environment, demonstrating strong customer service skills and knowledge.
- Ability to analyze complex data and make sound decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in a professional context.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, building rapport, and managing expectations.

- Background in security vetting or investigative roles.
