Security Vetting Operations Manager

Position Overview
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) plays a crucial role in the UK's welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the largest public service department in the UK, DWP impacts the lives of many individuals throughout the country.
The DWP leads the Cluster 3 Vetting initiative, providing National Security Vetting (NSV) services for all personnel and contractors whose roles necessitate NSV within DWP and its seven partner organizations, including the Department of Health and Social Care, Food Standards Agency, Office of Rail and Road, OFWAT, OFGEM, and OFSTED. The Cluster 3 Vetting Team strictly adheres to the standards and guidelines set forth by His Majesty's Government (HMG) and collaborates with UK Security Vetting (UKSV) and other cluster leads to ensure a reliable and effective service.
Additionally, the Cluster 3 Vetting Team supports initiatives led by the DWP Personnel Security team and the broader Security & Data Protection teams to address insider threats within DWP.
Role Responsibilities
The Vetting Manager position is integral to the Cluster 3 Vetting Team, which operates under the Security and Data Protection division. In this role, you will deliver a security vetting service for the Department and its contractors, in alignment with HMG standards and guidelines. Furthermore, you will provide personnel security support across the Department.
The key responsibilities include:
- Conducting interviews with applicants for National Security Vetting (NSV) regarding sensitive personal matters.
- Evaluating information from diverse sources to identify potential personnel security risks.
- Making informed and impartial decisions based on established criteria to determine NSV eligibility.
- Collaborating with DWP’s Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt (CFCD) Directorate to foster relationships with recruitment teams and hiring managers, ensuring a streamlined recruitment process.
- Participating in projects aimed at managing insider threats.
- Monitoring and reporting on vetting performance metrics, identifying challenges, and proposing process enhancements.
- Engaging with colleagues and stakeholders on security issues related to vetting and personnel security.
Candidate Profile
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in a customer service environment, demonstrating strong customer service skills and knowledge.
- Ability to analyze complex information and make challenging decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in a professional context.
- Experience in stakeholder interaction, building rapport, and managing expectations.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in a security vetting or investigative setting.
