Job Overview

Are you passionate about ensuring safety and security within a healthcare environment? Join our dedicated team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Healthcare Security Officer.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Hospital Safety Team Manager and Supervisor, delivering a comprehensive security service around the clock. This role is essential in safeguarding both staff and patients, ensuring a secure environment for all. Responsibilities include conducting informed patrols throughout the hospital and its grounds to deter and identify any criminal or disruptive activities. A significant aspect of this position involves maintaining a visible presence in various departments, particularly in high-stress areas such as the Accident and Emergency department, where you will assist in de-escalating situations involving distressed individuals.

Key Responsibilities

The Healthcare Security Officer will be tasked with the following:

  • Delivering a professional security service that protects and advises staff, patients, and visitors, fostering a safe and crime-free environment.
  • Providing assistance to staff, patients, and visitors in a manner that reflects positively on the Trust.
  • Remaining vigilant and capable of making independent decisions in rapidly evolving situations, demonstrating composure and assertiveness when necessary.
  • Offering guidance on crime prevention and personal safety, as well as assisting with various inquiries from the public.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members to ensure a seamless operational security service.
  • Responding promptly to all emergency calls and managing incidents to their satisfactory resolution, including liaising with emergency services when required.
  • Keeping abreast of security policies and procedures, as well as understanding relevant legal frameworks.
  • Engaging proactively with individuals at risk of physical harm and ensuring their safety.
  • Attending to all alarms and prioritizing responses to minimize potential harm or damage.
  • Participating actively in major incident responses, ensuring all relevant parties are informed and that protocols are followed.
  • Completing necessary documentation and reports in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Professional Conduct

  • Supporting victims of crime by providing appropriate advice and updates on investigations.
  • Assisting in the investigation and documentation of all reported incidents.
  • Maintaining accurate records of duties performed and incidents reported.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Trust's uniform policy and maintaining a professional appearance.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 2 SIA Door Supervisor License
  • Level 2 Physical Intervention Training
  • Level 2 Conflict Management and Communication Skills

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications in Security, Police, or Armed Forces
  • Willingness to pursue further accredited security qualifications
