About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner to join our Community Perinatal Mental Health Team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a complex caseload of patients with perinatal mental health needs, providing specialist assessment, care planning, and evaluation of treatment plans.
  • Participate in the setting of quality standards, auditing, monitoring, and reviewing practice in line with current clinical guidance and policy.
  • Administer medication, adhering to Trust procedures and NMC Guidance.
  • Assess patient care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate programs of care.
  • Deliver a range of interventions, including pharmacological and psychologically informed interventions, in accordance with the agreed plan of care and Pathway guidance.
  • Complete and contribute to robust risk assessments and risk management plans, promoting positive risk-taking to improve quality of life and maximize occupational performance/independence.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system, observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient condition.
  • Utilize agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of interventions, as part of the care planning and evaluation process.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered mental health Nurse or Occupational Therapist.
  • Post-registration experience, evidence of formal courses and training at diploma/degree level.

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification.
  • BSc degree in nursing/social work/occupational therapy or equivalent level.
  • Qualification in providing supervision.
  • Qualification in coaching.
  • Non-medical Prescriber.
  • Psychological intervention Qualification including EMDR, CBT, CBTp, Family Interventions, CAT, DBT.
  • Phlebotomy.

Experience

  • Evidence of extensive post-registration experience with working with adults experiencing mental health-related difficulties.
  • Experience of working with women experiencing perinatal mental health needs/knowledge of demographic risk factors for this client group.
  • Experience of working with people who have difficulty engaging with services and have complex mental health needs.
  • Experience of working in a community setting and making decisions autonomously.
  • Experience of assessing, planning, coordinating, and managing people with mental health problems in a community setting.
  • Experience of integrating care delivery across multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams.
  • Experience of leading/contributing to CPA/SAP process.
  • Experience of presenting at local/national level.
  • Experience and ability to carry out clinical audit.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the Mental Health NICE Guidelines.
  • Understanding of the principles of the Care Programme Approach and Community Care Act.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Equality and Anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Knowledge of other relevant local and national documents/drivers that affect practice.
  • Knowledge of the wide range of statutory independent and third-sector service provision for adults with mental ill health.
  • Skills of assessing, planning, and evaluating care for people with mental health-related difficulties, utilizing the principles of Recovery.
  • Skilled in the assessment of clinical risk and developing and communicating appropriate risk management plans.
  • Knowledge and experience of holistic assessment of someone's mental ill health, strengths, and needs and appropriate nursing and multi-disciplinary and agency interventions.
  • Ability to complete and interpret HONOS.
  • Ability to integrate the assessment, care planning, and the review process for service users/carers in a sensitive manner.
  • A range of skills and knowledge to deliver evidence-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of the physical health needs and monitoring requirements for people receiving adult community mental health services.
  • Skilled in interventions to engage people difficult to engage.
  • Skilled in interventions to support concordance with treatment interventions.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act, and DOLS.
  • Range of Interpersonal skills, (communication, listening, working collaboratively) maintaining good working relationships with service users/carers, other service providers, and agencies.
  • Ability to manage staff/support workers and to incorporate management/leadership skills into practice including: promoting positivity, supporting innovation, management of performance, delegation, and caseload and clinical supervision.
  • Supervisory skills and knowledge to be able to provide clinical supervision.
  • Participate in Staff Appraisal and Performance Review.
  • Ability to work to agreed Quality Standards (CQUINS, CQC, MONITOR, NHSLA, NHS OUTCOMES, and others).
  • Accurate and timely recording and maintenance of information systems.
