Specialized Teaching Assistants for Autism Support

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

GSL Education is seeking experienced Specialized Teaching Assistants to provide support in a Special Educational Needs environment.

Requirements for Specialized Teaching Assistants:

  • Recent experience in supporting individuals with Autism.
  • Understanding of the needs and behaviors associated with Autism.
  • Training in de-escalation techniques, Team Teach, MAPA, or NAPPI is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A calm, nurturing, and patient demeanor.
  • Experience with communication methods such as PECs and Makaton for individuals with speech and language challenges.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in educational practices.
  • Possession of an Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through GSL Education.

Responsibilities of Specialized Teaching Assistants:

  • Support the classroom teacher in creating and executing lesson plans that meet the varied needs of students with autism.
  • Provide tailored support to students with autism, focusing on their unique abilities and requirements.
  • Assist in the development of communication and social skills among students.
  • Collaborate with educators and other professionals to formulate and implement behavior management strategies specific to students with autism.
  • Gather and analyze data on student progress and behaviors to inform educational plans and evaluate intervention effectiveness.
  • Build positive relationships with students, their families, and fellow staff members.

As a Specialized Teaching Assistant, a deep understanding of autism and its associated behaviors is essential. A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and resilience are key traits that will contribute to your success in this role.

Note: This position requires a thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols. Successful candidates must pass all necessary background checks, including an enhanced DBS.
