Financial Reporting Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Manager to join our team at FirstGroup. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for leading the management accountants and producing financial reports for the FirstGroup board, Rail Division, and the Department for Transport (DfT).

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of financial reporting and analysis. As a Financial Reporting Manager, you will be responsible for producing timely and accurate financial reports, coordinating and managing periodic, quarterly, and annual reports, and working with the Head of Financial Reporting to develop the company's financial reporting.

Main Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Set the highest standards for financial reporting and ensure timely and accurate delivery of reports.
  • Report Coordination: Coordinate and manage periodic, quarterly, and annual reports to DfT, Rail Division, and Group.
  • Financial Analysis: Work with the Head of Financial Reporting to develop the company's financial reporting and minimize manual processes.
  • Management Information: Provide relevant management information to Finance, Senior Management in FirstGroup, and DfT.
Accountable for Performance
  • Team Leadership: Lead the team to ensure a quality service is delivered to internal and external customers.
  • Reporting Consistency: Ensure clear and consistent assumptions are used in the production of all finance reporting.
Supporting Each Other
  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of professional accountants.
  • Development Planning: Ensure team and individual objectives are clear and development plans are in place.
  • Team Collaboration: Support and work closely with the entire finance team.
  • Reporting Deadlines: Ensure a close working relationship with Rail Division to ensure all reporting deadlines are met and reports submitted.
  • Cover and Support: Provide cover within Finance during holiday periods.
  • Role Cross-Training: Ensure all roles are crossed trained and there is adequate cover to reduce risk of key person dependency.
  • Task Documentation: Ensure all tasks within the team are documented.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualified Accountant with 2 years PQE experience working in a large complex finance team.
  • Accounting Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent team player with leadership and team management skills.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with finance and non-financial colleagues.
  • Writing Skills: Ability to write quality narrative on variances, actuals, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Professional Behaviours: Professional behaviours, ethics, and values.
