Your Role

Stockport MBC is offering a remarkable opportunity for a seasoned legal professional specializing in Child Welfare to join our esteemed and innovative Social Care Team within the Legal and Democratic Governance sector. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative team environment that values your professional growth and development. Engaging with some of the most sensitive and challenging cases, you will play a vital role in supporting our Social Care clients to achieve optimal outcomes for children in Stockport.

As a part of our initiative, Stockport has been at the forefront of establishing a Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) in Greater Manchester. This role provides a unique chance to engage with this problem-solving approach to care proceedings, which has proven to be highly effective.

About You

We seek a highly driven Child Welfare specialist. You should be a confident collaborator who thrives under pressure and is capable of managing a high volume of intricate work. We are looking for a skilled and innovative lawyer with a practical, solution-oriented mindset.

Your responsibilities will include delivering high-quality legal advice and support to the People Directorate, enabling the Council to fulfill its statutory obligations in safeguarding vulnerable children. Strong advocacy skills and flexibility to assist team members as needed are essential.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage a diverse and demanding caseload with minimal oversight. A current practicing certificate (or equivalent qualification such as CILEX) is required, along with a proven track record of adding value to a well-established team.

You will need to quickly establish and maintain robust internal and external working relationships, working effectively within a team to ensure continuity of service to our internal clients and residents.
