Working Hours: 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday

Role Overview:

The Banksman will play a crucial role in overseeing the safe movement and loading/unloading of vehicles on site. This position involves directing mobile plant operations and ensuring a secure environment for all personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements for vehicle reversing.
  • Implement strategies to minimize accidents related to reversing vehicles.
  • Reduce the frequency of reversing maneuvers and maintain awareness of associated risks.
  • Utilize effective hand signals and practical techniques to assist drivers during maneuvers.
  • Maintain visibility to drivers at all times.
  • Position oneself safely to guide vehicles without obstructing their path.
  • Wear high-visibility clothing to ensure clear communication of signals.
  • Adhere to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements on site.
  • Utilize 2-way radios effectively; strong communication skills are essential.
  • Report near-miss incidents to the Operations Manager and Shift Supervisors.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, HR, and Environmental policies.
  • Ensure that bins and skips are not placed in the main yard.
  • Enforce adherence to the one-way system and speed limits.
  • Manage holding bays and safe parking for all vehicles on site.
  • Direct traffic at the weighbridge during peak times.
  • Guide deliveries to the appropriate departments.
  • Ensure all personnel follow site PPE requirements.
  • Prevent drivers from leaving vehicles unattended in undesignated areas.
  • Maintain pedestrian route safety and prevent unauthorized crossings.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and environmental practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and problem-solving.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of vehicle operations.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills.
  • Displays excellent organizational abilities.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the waste and recycling sectors.
  • Experience with relevant plant and machinery.
  • Willingness to assist team members while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Experience operating a weighbridge.
  • Formal Banksman training.
