Job Title: Banksman / Traffic Management Operative

Working Hours: 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday

About the Role:

The Banksman will oversee the safe movement and loading/unloading of vehicles, as well as manage the operation of mobile machinery. This role involves closely monitoring equipment to ensure safety and efficiency during operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with legal standards for vehicle reversing
  • Reduce the frequency and costs associated with reversing-related incidents
  • Minimize reversing maneuvers and remain vigilant of potential hazards
  • Utilize effective hand signals and practical techniques to assist drivers
  • Maintain visibility to drivers at all times
  • Position oneself safely to guide vehicles without obstruction
  • Wear high-visibility attire to ensure clear communication
  • Adhere to PPE regulations on site
  • Communicate effectively using 2-way radios
  • Report near-miss incidents to management
  • Follow all Health, Safety, HR, and Environmental protocols
  • Prevent unauthorized placement of bins or skips in the main yard
  • Enforce adherence to one-way systems and speed limits
  • Manage vehicle holding bays and parking arrangements
  • Direct traffic at the weighbridge during peak periods
  • Guide deliveries to appropriate departments
  • Ensure compliance with site PPE requirements by all personnel
  • Prevent drivers from leaving vehicles in undesignated areas
  • Maintain pedestrian safety by enforcing designated routes
  • Perform additional tasks as required within the role's scope.

  • Demonstrates safety and environmental awareness in operations
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and resolves issues
  • Possesses strong knowledge of vehicle operations
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills
  • Displays strong organizational abilities

Desirable Requirements:

  • Familiarity with waste and recycling sectors
  • Experience with relevant machinery and equipment
  • Willingness to assist team members with additional tasks
  • Experience operating a weighbridge
  • Certified Banksman training
