Lead Patient Care Assistant

WestonsuperMare, North Somerset, United Kingdom University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) Full time

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Band 3 Lead Patient Care Assistant to become a vital member of our Enhanced Care Observations Team.

Are you passionate about delivering exceptional, person-centered care to those in need? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where you can engage with a diverse range of patients and significantly enhance their hospital journey? If you are looking to be part of a collaborative team while also demonstrating your ability to work autonomously across various specialized wards, we want to hear from you.

We are in search of enthusiastic individuals who are committed to teamwork yet can effectively manage their own responsibilities.

Essential Experience

Prior experience in a nursing or care assistant role is a fundamental requirement for this position.

The Enhanced Care Team comprises Healthcare Support Workers at Weston General Hospital, providing essential support to patients needing heightened observation. These individuals may be at risk of self-harm or harm to others, and your role will be crucial in maintaining a secure environment while facilitating enriching activities. You will work under the guidance of an ECO team leader but will also operate independently within your assigned ward.

Key Responsibilities

Adhere to Trust policies, including infection control and manual handling, while performing a variety of clinical tasks under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered Nurse.

Your responsibilities will include supporting patients requiring enhanced observation, executing a range of duties with the guidance of the RN. The Lead Patient Care Assistant will be skilled in delivering compassionate care that meets established quality standards and will continue to expand their skills, knowledge, and competencies through ongoing assessment.

A solid understanding of the Enhanced Care Observation (ECO) policy and related assessment documents is essential. You will encourage patients to engage in conversations and activities such as reminiscence, games, puzzles, and simple crafts, as well as support their independence in daily living activities. This may extend to activities outside the ward environment when appropriate.

Additionally, you will be expected to mentor Band 2 Healthcare Support Workers and assist in the orientation and training of newly appointed staff, learners, and visitors to the ward/unit.

You will provide compassionate care, maintain patient assessments, and ensure accurate documentation in accordance with Trust policies and area-specific competencies to agreed quality standards.
