Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Fixed Term Contract for up to 12 months (with potential for extension)

Devon County Council is currently enhancing its Finance Services, integrating a new financial management system and broader Microsoft 365 tools as part of a comprehensive transformation initiative.

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for two Finance Support Technicians to join our team for a duration of 12 months.

These positions will collaborate with a Finance Business Partner to assist various departments with budget formulation, year-end forecasting, monitoring, and financial analysis. Beyond traditional budget management support, there will be opportunities to engage in transformation projects related to cost analysis and anticipated benefits, as well as developing financial models to aid in service evaluations. This role serves as an excellent stepping stone in your finance career, allowing you to expand or enhance your experience for future opportunities.

Although the job description is career graded, we are seeking candidates at the AAT qualified or CCAB part-qualified level (Grade 16A or 20). This level of work has been assessed in collaboration with a Finance Business Partner and requires initiative in supporting our more complex departments.

You will be accountable for maintaining precise financial records while ensuring adherence to security and confidentiality protocols.

As a values-driven organization, we are united in our vision of creating a community that is healthy and appealing for residents and visitors alike. We achieve this by taking personal responsibility for the quality of our work, the relationships we cultivate, and the continuous improvement of our services.

As a small district council, this role offers a unique chance to broaden your experience and support a diverse range of services that may not be available outside of local government, along with gaining invaluable knowledge in change management related to systems, digital tools, and service evaluations.

We are an equal opportunities employer committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, regardless of age, caring responsibilities, disability, gender/sex, gender reassignment/trans status, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, and socio-economic background. We also encourage applications from military veterans and their families.

We offer the following benefits:

  • A generous flexible working scheme allowing up to 2 days of flexi leave per month.
  • Hybrid working arrangements with the option to work 50% of hours from home.
  • A newly refurbished office space designed for zero carbon emissions.
  • Participation in the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Generous annual leave and wellness package.
  • Discounted gym memberships at local leisure centers.
  • Opportunities for professional development and learning.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Relevant IT skills and experience with Microsoft 365 and financial systems.
  • Experience in an office setting with accountancy responsibilities, directly collaborating with Budget Managers.
  • Strong numeracy and spreadsheet capabilities to extract, manipulate, analyze, and report financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly in both verbal and written formats.
  • A collaborative mindset, with self-motivation to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A curious nature, open to change and eager to develop new skills.

Preferred qualifications may include:

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience within the Local Government Sector.

Qualification and Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 16A: AAT or equivalent with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as relevant, along with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Grade 20: AAT or equivalent with CPD and at least 1 year of post-qualification experience, along with 5 years of relevant experience.

Please review the job description and person specification for the Finance Support Technician role to assess how your knowledge, skills, and experience align with the job requirements. In your supporting statement, kindly detail how you meet each of the essential criteria outlined in the person specification.
