The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charitable organization established to oversee over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland, unique habitats, and historical landmarks across several Royal Parks in London. These include prominent locations such as Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, and Richmond Park, among others.

Additionally, we manage significant public spaces like Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our parks are among the UK's most frequented attractions, welcoming 77 million visitors annually.

Help Nature Thrive (HNT) is a strategic initiative focused on addressing the global biodiversity crisis by enhancing the resilience, biodiversity, and visitor connection within The Royal Parks. Supported by substantial annual funding, this initiative aims to implement conservation improvements, enrich visitor learning experiences, and gather data to guide management practices.

We are currently seeking an Engagement Officer to join our HNT Team on a full-time basis. This role is supported by funding and offers the potential for an extension based on available resources.

This position is ideal for a motivated individual with a background in delivering engagement initiatives within environmental and scientific contexts. Your expertise will be crucial in advancing our Help Nature Thrive initiative as we strive to combat the biodiversity crisis and enhance the ecological integrity of London's cherished green spaces.

Key Responsibilities

As an Engagement Officer, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Help Nature Thrive Team in increasing community participation, volunteerism, and outreach efforts.
  • Collaborating with park teams, local authorities, and other stakeholders to identify and engage new target demographics.
  • Developing nature-focused engagement strategies to attract diverse community groups to the parks.
  • Promoting the Help Nature Thrive initiative to various audiences, including park visitors and volunteers.
  • Conducting community development activities.
  • Managing budgets and ensuring all financial records are maintained accurately.
  • Assisting in the execution of the Help Nature Thrive Roadshow.

Candidate Profile

To qualify for the Engagement Officer position, candidates should possess:

  • Experience in creating and implementing community engagement activities related to natural sciences, ecology, and conservation.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and visitors.
  • A strong passion for and knowledge of urban nature in the UK.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong numerical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in IT, particularly Microsoft Office applications.
  • A degree in an environmental or social science discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
