Junior Breast Care Support Practitioner

Position Overview
The Breast Care Unit is seeking a dedicated Breast Care Support Practitioner to become part of our collaborative multi-disciplinary team, working 30 hours per week as a Band 3 trainee, with the potential to advance to a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner upon demonstrating satisfactory competencies and qualifications.
In this role, you will deliver nursing care in an outpatient environment, complete specialized breast care competencies, and receive targeted training, including theatre competencies designed to assist the breast surgeon during procedures.
You will ensure that patients and their families are kept informed about their health status within the limits of your competency, and you will engage in feedback processes, reporting to your Line Manager any actions taken or required. Additionally, you will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, unit discussions, and educational sessions, as well as facilitate handovers between clinics, wards, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete specialized breast care competencies.
- Undergo specialized training with theatre competencies to assist the breast surgeon effectively.
- Support the Breast Care Nurse and clinical psychologist in the rehabilitation program for breast cancer patients.
- Promote breast awareness among the public, patients, and staff as part of our educational and screening initiatives.
- Assist the Breast Care Nurses in managing the breast reconstruction service efficiently.
- Train and mentor Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and trainee assistant practitioners, while also supporting bank staff and student nurses/medics.
- Take responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individual patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Supervise trainee assistant practitioners, bank staff, and HCAs.
- Receive training in psychology to assist in guiding patients and access clinical supervision as needed.
- Assess patient needs and provide clinical advice in accordance with established guidelines and protocols.
- Be trained in stock management processes and conduct appraisals for HCAs.

Essential
- Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice.

- Previous experience as a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner.
- Experience in oncology and/or surgical settings.
