Job Introduction

Media Operations is a key department within the Technology & Media Operations Group, responsible for producing exceptional content for our diverse audience. Our team, consisting of approximately nine hundred professionals, manages the technical and production operations for the BBC's news, radio, and sports services.

We collaborate closely with news, sports, and content teams to create engaging material that reaches millions of viewers daily. Our commitment to quality and creativity is paramount, as we strive to build trust with our audience.

Interview Process

Candidates selected for interviews will be required to submit a showreel showcasing their work, with a maximum duration of 20 minutes. This should include examples that highlight your ability to meet tight deadlines and demonstrate your creative skills. Additionally, candidates will participate in a face-to-face interview at our Birmingham studio.

Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Technical Operator, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality content for BBC Midlands Today, one of the most viewed programs on BBC 1. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing imaginative and engaging television, radio, and online packages.
  • Demonstrating creativity and excellence in camera work and editing.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members and supporting the BBC's Digital First strategy.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment, including weekends and occasional overnight shifts.
  • Contributing to various operational areas, such as audio mixing and directing.
