Position Overview

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Therapeutic Activities Facilitator to join our dynamic team within a specialized female treatment unit. This role is essential in creating, organizing, and implementing therapeutic and engaging activities that support a comprehensive approach to patient care, assessment, and treatment.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated and innovative individual capable of engaging with patients experiencing acute mental health challenges, particularly those who may be in crisis or lack capacity. The primary focus of the activities will be on health promotion, emphasizing distraction techniques, coping strategies, anxiety management, and the enhancement of physical health. Additionally, leading and supporting initiatives related to Safewards will be crucial in maintaining the trust's standards.

Key Responsibilities

As a Therapeutic Activities Facilitator, you will operate within the frameworks of Nursing and Occupational Therapy, expected to assist in conducting assessments relevant to these areas.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting assessments, activities, interventions, and documentation in line with trust policies and guidelines.
  • Upholding the trust's behavioral standards in all interactions.
  • Occasionally performing general healthcare assistant duties as directed, due to the fast-paced nature of the unit.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in engaging individuals in leisure activities.
  • Experience working with groups.
  • Experience as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Experience engaging individuals with mental health needs.

Skills and Competencies

Essential:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating sensitivity and empathy.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member.
  • Excellent communication skills, both formal and informal.
  • Capability to manage conflict and high emotional expression in clinical settings.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as required.
  • Ability to travel between trust locations as necessary.
  • Proficient IT skills for completing patient care and intervention plans.
  • Engagement in mandatory training to support the role.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated motivation and skills to support progression in the role.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Certificate in Mental Health or relevant NVQ III qualification, or equivalent experience in developing and providing structured leisure activities.
  • Completion of or willingness to work towards the Care Certificate.
  • Understanding of group dynamics and processes.
  • Awareness of evidence-based practices for individual or group activities.
  • Knowledge of local community services and leisure activity provisions.
  • Recognition of the importance of user and carer involvement.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with relevant policies, guidelines, and legislation applicable to clinical and service areas, including the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
