PRIVATE EQUITY PORTFOLIO ANALYST

Maven Capital Partners, a division of Mattioli Woods, is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to support our London/South division. This position will report directly to the Portfolio Director.

The primary objective of this role is to assist the senior portfolio team in enhancing value within the private company investment portfolio. This will involve monitoring growth and cash flow against projections, conducting thorough analyses, and preparing regular reports for the Maven investment committee to assess progress. The selected candidate will collaborate with the portfolio team to provide support and strategic guidance to management teams of investee companies, critically evaluating strategies, aiding in the execution of value enhancement plans, and leveraging professional network connections when necessary, all aimed at maximizing shareholder value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the portfolio management function by attending board meetings of investee companies and engaging with management teams to offer strategic insights and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with portfolio companies to ensure timely information exchange.
  • Assist in managing the portfolio of investee businesses to grasp the dynamics of growth, including analyzing management accounts and board presentations.
  • Contribute to the creation of comprehensive and insightful monthly and quarterly updates and reviews regarding the performance of individual and consolidated SME businesses within the portfolio.
  • Update the fund administration platform with monthly financial performance and quarterly valuation data for investee companies.
  • Assist in preparing investment committee proposals for follow-on funding or modifications to investment terms.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the line manager or leadership team that align with the role's scope and purpose.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong analytical skills – capable of researching new industry sectors, quickly assimilating information, and drawing appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Proficient in Excel modeling.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • A collaborative team player who can work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resilient and resourceful in supporting the portfolio management function during challenging situations with investee businesses.
  • Strong organizational skills – able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Business acumen – understanding the commercial environment in which businesses operate and maintaining a professional approach when dealing with investee companies.
  • A degree in a relevant quantitative discipline.
