The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to lead our Transportation Department as the Head of Transportation Unit. This role is based in our London design office, but the successful candidate will have opportunities for travel and work outside the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Transportation Department's workload: Oversee the department's international projects, primarily in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Commercial Bid Proposals and Tenders: Prepare and submit high-quality bid proposals and tenders to secure new projects.
  • Project Management and Leadership: Act as project manager for projects led by the department or coordinate team inputs for projects led by other disciplines.
  • Liaison and Technical Support: Maintain liaison with other departments, area offices, and project sites, providing technical support as required.
  • Client Representation: Interact with client representatives through meetings and presentations to represent the company's interests.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the company's Quality Assurance system is applied at all times.
  • Team Monitoring and Coordination: Monitor work and outputs produced by the Transportation Team and external specialized sub-contractors.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate project details with senior directors.
  • Deliverables and Timelines: Oversee deliverables and ensure they are submitted on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.
  • Department Operations: Undertake day-to-day operations of the department, including allocating resources, approving leave, signing off expenses, and approving travel.
  • Technical Expertise: Occasionally participate in projects as a technical expert.

Requirements

  • Education: 3-year degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of experience and education; MSc or higher is an advantage.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in managing projects and resources, people.
  • Operational Environments: Experience of working in different operational environments, especially in less-developed and emerging nations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Language Skills: Fluent written and spoken English, and good report writing abilities. Knowledge of a second language would be a bonus.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
