About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical & Surgical Ward Nurse to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our ward team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the smooth operation of our 24-bedded Head and Neck/ENT ward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist care to patients undergoing life-changing surgical interventions, including altered airway management and drain monitoring.
  • Develop and enhance your skills related to complex head and neck/ENT surgical skills, such as altered airway management, drain monitoring, and complex dressing completion.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver individualized care to patients living with cancer.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in the recruitment and training of new staff members to ensure a high-performing team.
Requirements
  • Registered nurse with a strong background in surgical oncology and head and neck/ENT nursing.
  • Proven experience of managing a ward, including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources, and staff.
  • Ability to administer prescribed medication, including transfusion of blood and blood products.
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information, including dealing with distressed relatives and care of terminally ill patients.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk management.
  • An understanding of audit and research-based nursing practice.
