Hours: 21 hours per week, pro-rated from a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week

At CATALYST 4 CHANGE, we are dedicated to enhancing the capabilities and networks of user-led, voluntary, social enterprises, grassroots organizations, and businesses to ensure effective mental health support is accessible.

We offer a variety of services for grassroots mental health and wellbeing providers in the West Midlands, including advocacy, guidance, events, and more.

We are currently seeking a Community Engagement Lead to oversee the execution of specific outputs and requirements from various internal and external community engagement projects.

Community Engagement Lead – Role Overview:

You will assist the Black Thrive Research Institute and Observatory (RIO) in establishing itself as a credible authority on data, fostering the necessary conceptual resources for Black Liberation, and driving significant systemic change through insights derived from Black-led research.

In this role, you will lead, coordinate, and potentially execute high-quality community engagement initiatives, facilitating the dissemination of pertinent research, policy formulation, and best practices.

As our Community Engagement Lead, your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing and managing a portfolio of initiatives, ensuring successful execution and attainment of objectives.
  • Designing and implementing project activities utilizing appropriate engagement methodologies.
  • Effectively communicating with project partners and funders, providing regular updates on progress.
  • Conducting comprehensive data analysis and presenting findings in agreed formats.
  • Developing and executing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) frameworks to track project advancements.
  • Facilitating the recruitment of service users, caregivers, and community members for engagement projects.
  • Preparing progress reports and updates for funders, stakeholders, and senior management.
  • Creating engaging content for newsletters, blogs, and digital platforms.
  • Collaborating on joint research opportunities and fundraising initiatives.
Community Engagement Lead – Required Skills and Experience:

Proficiency in designing qualitative and/or quantitative community engagement projects and applying methodologies to fieldwork (e.g., semi-structured interviews, focus groups).


  • Experience in project planning, management, and delivery.
  • Knowledge of ethical standards for conducting community engagement and evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of race, equality, and systemic racism affecting individuals and communities.
  • Ability to process, transcribe, clean, analyze, and present data effectively.
  • Experience in report writing and dissemination of findings and recommendations.
Previous experience in designing and executing community engagement and evaluation projects within the voluntary sector is essential.
