Your Role:

The position of Institutional Legal Advisor is pivotal within our Institutional Legal team, focusing on international markets and professional trading clients, including banks, brokers, hedge funds, market makers, and corporations. This team is composed of a select group of seasoned attorneys with backgrounds in both traditional finance and fintech. The role involves oversight of institutional products such as prime brokerage, trading, custody, derivatives, and financing solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate innovative, customized agreements with strategic partners and sophisticated entities in finance, payments, and digital currency.
  • Provide comprehensive product life-cycle legal counsel for various global prime brokerage, custody, and derivatives-related offerings, along with practical advice on legal issues, complex agreement structures, and company policies.
  • Stay informed about and advise on legal and regulatory matters concerning digital currency and blockchain technology.
  • Lead and support complex, global cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment with stakeholders across Institutional Sales, Business Development, Product/Engineering, Finance/Tax, and Compliance.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and legal colleagues to address challenges, foster partnerships, and expedite deal closures.
  • Proactively identify and resolve business challenges as they pursue an ambitious global growth strategy, developing scalable approaches to risk management and creating flexible commercial processes.
  • Anticipate potential issues and creatively address challenges as the team executes its transactional and product strategies.
  • Act as a business partner, contributing beyond traditional legal roles.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial services institution or law firm supporting such clients, ideally with some in-house experience.
  • Genuine interest in digital currency and blockchain technology.
  • Experience collaborating with product teams to launch fintech or financial services products.
  • Proven ability to lead and work with globally distributed, cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with UK/EU regulatory frameworks applicable to financial instruments and crypto assets.
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and clear communication abilities.
  • Intellectual curiosity and adaptability.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative spirit.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting authorization and licensing applications for spot and derivatives expansion across jurisdictions.
  • Expertise in analyzing the regulatory status of crypto assets.
  • Experience advising on cross-border licensing requirements and client classification procedures.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a background in reviewing financial agreements.
  • Experience in collateral arrangements.
