Your Role:
The Institutional Legal Advisor position is a key role within our Institutional Legal team, primarily serving international markets and professional trading clients, including banks, brokers, hedge funds, market makers, and corporate entities. This team is comprised of a select group of seasoned attorneys with backgrounds in both traditional finance and fintech. The role will report to the team lead and will involve institutional products such as prime brokerage, trading, custody, derivatives, and financing solutions. We are seeking a legal professional with robust product development, regulatory, and negotiation expertise, ideally gained within the traditional prime brokerage, securities financing, or derivatives sectors. A sense of curiosity, adaptability, and a desire to make a significant impact at the intersection of cryptocurrency and traditional financial markets is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiate innovative, customized agreements with strategic partners and sophisticated clients in the finance, payments, and digital currency sectors.
- Provide comprehensive product life-cycle legal guidance for various global prime brokerage, custody, and derivatives-related offerings, alongside practical advice on legal issues, risks, complex agreement structures, and company policies in a compliance-focused environment.
- Stay informed about and advise on legal and regulatory matters related to digital currency and blockchain technology.
- Lead and support complex, global cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment with stakeholders across Institutional Sales, Business Development, Product/Engineering, Finance/Tax, and Compliance.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and legal colleagues to address challenges, build partnerships, and expedite deal closures.
- Proactively identify and resolve business challenges as the company pursues an ambitious global growth strategy, developing scalable approaches to risk management and creating flexible commercial processes.
- Anticipate potential issues and creatively address challenges as the business executes its transactional and product development roadmap.
- Act as a business partner, integrating legal expertise with business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial services institution in the UK or in a law firm supporting such clients, preferably with some in-house experience.
- Genuine interest in digital currency and blockchain technology.
- Experience collaborating with product teams to launch fintech or financial services products.
- Proven ability to lead and work with cross-functional, globally distributed teams.
- Familiarity with UK/EU regulatory frameworks applicable to financial instruments and crypto assets.
- Comfortable challenging established norms and exploring new possibilities.
- Strong judgment, analytical skills, clear communication, and business acumen.
- Excellent analytical capabilities with experience managing projects from inception to completion.
- Creative problem-solving skills that support the scaling of financial services and technology solutions.
- Sound business judgment and intellectual curiosity.
- Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience assisting with critical authorization and licensing applications for spot and derivatives expansion across multiple jurisdictions.
- Knowledge of the regulatory status of crypto assets and their classification as regulated financial instruments.
- Experience advising on cross-border licensing requirements and client classification procedures.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to review and negotiate financial agreements.
- Experience in registering and perfecting collateral arrangements.
