Role Overview

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is seeking a Lead Economic Analyst to join our Strategy and Communications Directorate. This directorate plays a pivotal role within the organization, uniting various teams that collaborate on organization-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Delivering significant events and orchestrating public affairs or marketing initiatives.
  • Providing comprehensive data, evidence, and analytical insights.
  • Leading cross-organizational programs and ensuring preparedness for emerging events.

The role will encompass monitoring economic trends in London, contributing to publications, and analyzing various economic factors, including tourism, fiscal events, and the ongoing implications of significant political changes.

Project Management

The Lead Economic Analyst will be responsible for planning and executing projects, ensuring they meet high-quality standards and deadlines. The GLA Economics unit, established by the Mayor of London, aims to provide a solid economic evidence base to inform investment decisions and policy strategies.

Data Analysis and Reporting

This position requires:

  • Assisting in understanding the structure and future prospects of London's economy.
  • Developing and managing in-house economic models and conducting sectoral analyses.
  • Providing strategic advice on infrastructure investments and fostering partnerships with external stakeholders.

The analyst will also respond to urgent inquiries from key stakeholders and engage in continuous professional development to stay updated on economic advancements.

Collaboration and Communication

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain a current understanding of London's economy and its influencing factors.
  • Assist in identifying and commissioning data sources to meet the needs of the unit.
  • Review and analyze economic data to highlight key issues relevant to policy development.
  • Present data and insights through written reports and presentations.
  • Support special projects as required by the GLA or its functional bodies.

Additionally, you will represent GLA Economics at external events and promote equality of opportunities within London's diverse communities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree or professional qualification in economics or a related field, preferably at the postgraduate level.
  • Experience or equivalent knowledge in economics or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of economic issues at various levels and their implications for policy and service delivery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with statistical software.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary projects and navigate complex political environments.
