We are seeking a Junior Underwriter specializing in Natural Resources with a focus on Onshore Energy, Power, and Renewables.

The Onshore Energy Team operates within the broader Natural Resources division in London. Your Contribution

As a Junior Underwriter in Onshore Energy, Power, and Renewables, you will manage the underwriting process in your area of expertise. You will independently evaluate risks, exercise your underwriting authority, and collaborate with internal teams to guarantee accurate and timely policy management. Your role is vital in nurturing robust relationships with brokers, ensuring effective communication, and building trust. Your efforts will significantly influence the efficiency and precision of our underwriting operations, contributing to our success in the competitive downstream oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts, ensuring alignment with performance targets and within established authority.
  • Engage in business acquisition and retention, including negotiations with clients and brokers.
  • Analyze underwriting information, including client research and claims history.
  • Assist in pricing risks and assessing Natural Catastrophe Accumulation.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and governance frameworks.
  • Oversee policy documentation, ensuring accuracy and contract certainty.
  • Support the management of International Insurance Programs and timely premium bookings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal teams.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in Economics, Law, or a related discipline, or progress towards a professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII).
  • Strong risk assessment capabilities, with the ability to evaluate exposures and natural hazards pertinent to the line of business.
  • Understanding of pricing and market dynamics, with the ability to analyze performance against benchmarks.
  • Proficiency in contract drafting and interpretation, developing consistent and robust policy wordings.
  • Solid grasp of the policy management lifecycle, including administration, premium bookings, and credit control.
  • Excellent communication skills for effectively conveying ideas in both written and verbal formats.
  • Analytical skills to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
