This position involves shift work, totaling 48 hours per week, inclusive of breaks. The successful candidate will be required to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays as dictated by the agreed shift pattern. Flexibility is essential, as the working days and shifts may be subject to change with minimal notice, although this will be communicated at least 48 hours in advance. Detailed explanations of the shift pattern will be provided during the interview process.

Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) has been providing high-quality security services at over 170 MOD sites throughout the United Kingdom for more than three decades. Our responsibilities include access control, military working dogs, control room operations, and various other security services. We play a crucial role in supporting the Defence Mission and ensuring the safety of the Defence estate and its personnel against potential threats.

With a workforce of over 2,700 employees, MGS is part of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). Our Security Officers often serve as the initial point of contact for employees, visitors, and contractors on-site, and we take pride in fostering a professional, customer-oriented culture. Key Duties

The primary responsibility of our Security Officers is to ensure the safety and security of Defence employees, visitors, and property. Key duties include:

  • Overseeing the safety and security of designated areas.
  • Conducting foot and vehicle patrols in accordance with established security protocols.
  • Identifying potential security threats and responding appropriately.
  • Managing vehicular and pedestrian access to the site, verifying credentials, issuing passes, and escorting visitors as necessary.
  • Conducting searches of vehicles, baggage, personnel, buildings, and open areas.
  • Managing traffic flow.
  • Documenting incidents of security breaches or defects and maintaining daily logs.
  • Responding promptly to emergencies and incidents in designated areas.
  • Assisting employees and visitors with any inquiries or concerns.
  • Escalating emergency situations to law enforcement as required.
  • Operating and monitoring security systems, including CCTV and alarms.
  • Communicating effectively via telephone and/or radio.
