Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking a Lead Civil / Structural Engineer to provide expertise for a prominent client in the nuclear sector.

Position Overview:
This role involves reporting directly to the Area Lead Engineer and the Engineering Manager, working on a full-time basis.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the efforts of fellow engineers, ensuring adherence to budgetary and scheduling requirements.
  • Deliver engineering assistance to construction and commissioning teams in alignment with planned activities.
  • Foster and sustain robust relationships with the permanent works design team, on-site construction personnel, and the client's intelligent customer team to facilitate prompt resolution of technical challenges.
  • Address technical inquiries, product permits, concessions, and non-conformances swiftly as they arise during construction operations.
  • Engage daily with construction staff on-site, providing necessary interventions to ensure compliance with engineering design specifications.
  • Generate and verify structural calculations (including steelwork, concrete, and masonry), technical reports, and details required for site modifications, with the approval of the permanent works team.
  • Evaluate contractor method statements, inspection plans, and related documentation.
  • Participate in walk downs, meetings, and reviews as needed.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree qualified, ideally a Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE).
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A proactive, self-motivated individual with strong communication, analytical, and teamwork abilities.
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations and responsibilities as a Designer.

Security Clearance:
The ability to obtain BPSS is a requirement for this position.

Design Tools / Software:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, STAAD-Pro, Tedds, and Navisworks is expected.
