Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking a Lead Civil / Structural Engineer to provide expertise for a prominent client in the nuclear sector.

Position Overview

The Lead Civil & Structural Engineer will report directly to the Area Lead Engineer and the Engineering Manager, working on a full-time basis. The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Overseeing and directing the work of other engineers, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Offering engineering assistance to construction and commissioning teams in line with planned activities.
  • Building and sustaining robust relationships with the permanent works design team, on-site construction personnel, and the client's intelligent customer team to facilitate prompt resolution of technical challenges.
  • Addressing technical inquiries, product permits, concessions, and non-conformances swiftly as they arise from construction operations.
  • Engaging daily with construction staff on-site, providing necessary interventions to ensure compliance with engineering design intent as outlined in the drawings and specifications.
  • Generating and verifying structural calculations (for steelwork, concrete, and masonry), technical reports, and details required for site modifications, with the approval of the permanent works team.
  • Evaluating contractor method statements, inspection plans, and other relevant documentation.
  • Participating in walk-downs, meetings, and reviews as needed.



Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Possession of a degree, ideally as a Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE).
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A proactive self-starter with strong communication, analytical, and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations and responsibilities as a Designer.



Security Clearance

Eligibility to obtain BPSS is a requirement for this role.

Design Tools / Software Proficiency

Experience with Microsoft Office, STAAD-Pro, Tedds, and Navisworks is advantageous.
