Westlakes Recruit is currently seeking a Lead Civil / Structural Engineer to support our esteemed nuclear clients in West Cumbria.

Position Overview

The Principal Civil & Structural Engineer will report directly to the Area Lead Engineer and the Engineering Manager on a full-time basis. The key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Overseeing and directing the work of other engineers, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Providing engineering assistance to construction and commissioning teams in line with planned activities.
  • Building and maintaining robust relationships with the permanent works design team, on-site construction personnel, and the client's intelligent customer team to facilitate early engagement in resolving technical challenges.
  • Addressing technical inquiries, product permits, concessions, and non-conformances promptly as they arise from construction operations.
  • Engaging daily with construction staff on-site, offering direct intervention as needed to ensure compliance with engineering design intentions as outlined in the drawings and specifications.
  • Generating and verifying structural calculations (including steelwork, concrete, and masonry), technical reports, and details necessary for site modifications, with the approval of the permanent works team.
  • Reviewing contractor method statements, inspection plans, and other relevant documentation.
  • Participating in and attending site walk-downs, meetings, and reviews as required.



Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified, ideally a Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE).
  • Experience in the nuclear sector is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A proactive, self-motivated individual with strong communication, analytical, and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations and responsibilities as a Designer.



Security Clearance Requirements

Eligibility to obtain BPSS is essential for this position.

Design Tools / Software Proficiency

Proficient in Microsoft Office, STAAD-Pro, Tedds, and Navisworks.
