Cultural Heritage Advisor Position

This firm collaborates with various entities, including public organizations, non-profits, private firms, contractors, developers, and individuals. They have played a vital role in the preservation and development of some of the most cherished structures and sites both in the UK and internationally. The practice is known for delivering thoughtful restoration and repair initiatives alongside modern designs in historical settings. Their bold and contemporary projects span numerous sectors, including cultural, urban planning, education, religious, public, hospitality, residential, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert, informed, and practical guidance regarding heritage assets to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct desk-based and archival research as required.
  • Perform on-site, non-intrusive assessments, including building documentation, photographic surveys, and visual evaluations.
  • Draft clear and comprehensive documents, such as heritage impact assessments, RIBA stage 1 & 2 heritage statements, conservation management plans, archaeological assessments, and project fee proposals.
  • Work under the guidance of a designated line manager within the heritage team.
  • Independently manage small-scale projects, prepare fee proposals for prospective projects, and contribute to larger bids.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years of proven experience as a successful heritage consultant in a commercial setting is essential, along with a Master's degree (or higher) in a heritage or architecture-related discipline.
  • Experience in conducting archival research and thorough significance evaluations, producing precise and well-crafted documents, managing workloads, and overseeing projects.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and cost estimation for projects is a plus.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK is required.
  • Membership in professional organizations, such as the IHBC or CIfA, and possession of a UK driving license (for travel to remote locations) are advantageous.
