Our Heritage Planning Unit (HPU), situated within the Planning and Urban Design Department, is committed to delivering expert cultural heritage consultancy. With teams located in multiple regions, the HPU collaborates on significant master plans and supports various sectors, including Architecture, Environmental Studies, and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement: Facilitate workshops, presentations, and advocacy efforts with clients.
  • Research and Analysis: Execute comprehensive research, literature reviews, and develop cultural heritage baseline assessments; conduct site evaluations, including archaeological assessments.
  • Design Contributions: Offer heritage-focused design insights, including conservation strategies, urban planning, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse approaches.
  • Report Development: Prepare specialized reports such as Desk-Based Assessments, Statements of Significance, townscape studies, Visual Impact Assessments, Environmental Statements, and Conservation Management Plans.
  • Consultant Oversight: Evaluate technical submissions from external consultants.
  • Proposal Preparation: Draft proposals for prospective projects.
  • Professional Support: Assist in broader urban planning and design initiatives, including the creation of presentation materials.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant Master's degree accompanied by a minimum of 4 years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (particularly ArcMapPRO) and Adobe applications; familiarity with additional design software is advantageous (training will be provided).
  • Proven experience in landscape archaeology, environmental assessments, built heritage studies, academic research, and public archaeology.
  • Strong understanding of cultural heritage conservation methodologies and legal frameworks, with awareness of diverse regional practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and effective time management abilities. Willingness to collaborate with colleagues across various regions.
  • Flexibility and readiness to travel internationally for short-term site assessments.
