Job Overview
Essential Requirement: A Full UK Driving License and Access to a Vehicle.
Part Time: 22.2 Hours Per Week / 3 Days Per Week
At Turning Point, we are dedicated to assisting individuals throughout the UK facing challenges related to substance use. As a Family Support Recovery Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in transforming lives by creating personalized, adaptable, and realistic support strategies tailored to their needs. Your passion for helping others will not only benefit those you support but will also provide you with the opportunity to grow personally and professionally within a welcoming and diverse team.
Under the guidance of the SDAS Young Persons & Family Service Manager/Family Support Team Leader, the Recovery Specialist will be a key player in a multi-disciplinary team within the Somerset Family Support Team, delivering comprehensive interventions grounded in Motivational Interviewing Techniques. This role encompasses a full spectrum of outreach, open access, and case management services, including support for medically assisted recovery when appropriate, aimed at families impacted by substance use where children are involved in Child Protection or Child in Need Plans.
As a Family Support Recovery Specialist, you will receive a competitive starting salary of £24,150, with annual increments in line with our pay progression structure, reaching up to £28,252 per year (Pro-Rata). Depending on your experience, a higher starting salary may be considered.
We provide ample opportunities for career advancement through a structured learning journey and clearly defined career pathways, enabling you to achieve your long-term aspirations and leverage your strengths.
Whether your goal is to move into management and leadership roles or to specialize as an Advanced Substance Use Practitioner, Turning Point is committed to supporting and encouraging you throughout your career journey.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality support and interventions to families at the highest risk as part of the Family Support Team. This involves collaborating with adults and young individuals with a history of substance use to help them achieve their objectives and enhance outcomes for the entire family.
The Family Support Recovery Specialist will manage a caseload and provide services across an operational site as well as outreach in the local area. Responsibilities include conducting screenings, comprehensive assessments, needle exchange, risk assessments, recovery planning and reviews, and facilitating access to medically assisted recovery through various treatment protocols. You will also conduct home visits, deliver one-on-one key working sessions, and facilitate both semi-structured and structured group sessions to support families through engagement, detoxification, stabilization, and rehabilitation.
The role will require you to contribute to the overall objectives of the Family Support Team by compiling data and progress reports as directed, in accordance with the Family Support Workbook.
The focus of all interventions will be:
- To minimize substance-related harm to individuals and their children
- To mitigate the adverse effects of parental substance use on children and families
- To promote healthier lifestyles and enhance family choices
- To support parents and caregivers in both abstinence-based and medically assisted recovery
- To ensure effective case management and coordination of individual treatment plans in alignment with children's Child Protection or Child in Need Plans
- To encourage family member involvement to improve outcomes for children
The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the overall performance of the service to ensure that contractual output targets are met and will be required to document and input client data and information to ensure compliance with contractual, administrative, and financial standards.
The post holder will need to work flexibly across operational sites as required and within an agreed number of hours to maintain the most effective level of service provision.
The Ideal Candidate
With experience managing a significant caseload in a dynamic environment as a Recovery Specialist or in a similar role, you will possess a thorough understanding of substance use and the Recovery Agenda. Given the diverse nature of this role, flexibility, a proven track record of DANOS compliance, and knowledge of relapse and other recovery barriers will be essential. We seek Recovery Specialists with outstanding communication skills and, ideally, a vocational qualification such as an NVQ 3 or equivalent.
Proficient IT skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook, are essential for this position (assessed during the interview).
Your responsibilities will include facilitating workshops, managing recovery coordination sessions, compiling risk assessments and management plans, and developing care and reduction plans.
