About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Maternity Support Worker to join our Fetal Medicine Unit at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing empathetic care and support to expectant individuals and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the team in delivering efficient and compassionate care during fetal medicine appointments
  • Ensure continuity of care with other services and maintain good communication with referring teams
  • Utilize venesection skills and complete clinical observations as required
  • Prepare the environment and ensure stock is available for use
  • Process referrals and chase outstanding blood results and screening/scanning reports
  • Upload information to relevant systems
Person Specification
  • Recent experience as a carer in a healthcare setting
  • Level 3 qualification in healthcare, NVQ, Diploma or equivalent
  • Numeracy and literacy skills at level 2 (GCSE grade C/4 or above) or equivalent as a minimum standard
  • Previous experience in a hospital or community medical setting
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection
  • Self-motivated and conscientious
  • Aware of personal limitations
  • Willing to engage with and learn from peers
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Proficient in phlebotomy with recent experience
  • Care Certificate qualification or commitment to undertaking
  • Commitment to undertaking additional training corresponding to specialty
  • Experience of a maternity service or similar
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
