Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Manager or Senior Cost Manager to join our Cambridge-based Real Estate team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing estimating and cost planning activities, conducting feasibility studies, and ensuring that post-contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility studies and write procurement reports
  • Apply Value Management techniques at the outset of a project and involve Turner & Townsend's specialist Value Management team where appropriate
  • Manage estimating and cost planning activities, including taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan
  • Manage the procurement process, ensuring that all stages including pre-qualification, inquiry, analysis, selection, and contract preparation are performed effectively
  • Ensure that post-contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively
  • Ensure that cost checking and valuation work is managed effectively
  • Produce monthly post-contract cost reports and present them to the client
  • Value engineering and life cycle costing
  • Ensure that final accounts are negotiated and agreed
  • Take a lead role in interfacing with the client and other consultants at all project stages
  • Lead a cost management team, ensuring that they deliver on all of the above accountabilities

Marketing and Business Development

  • Develop new business opportunities with existing and new Turner & Townsend clients
  • Identify and act upon cross-selling opportunities
  • Work with Associate Directors and Directors to construct bids for new work
  • Attend 'beauty parades' with Assistant Directors and Directors
  • Identify and act upon opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates, and products, and hence improve the service provided to clients

Internal Management Accountabilities

  • Staff management (where appropriate) - Input into the formal management of an Assistant Cost Manager or small cost management team, including 1st round recruitment interviews, input into resource management, and attendance at junior staff appraisals

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in one of the following fields: construction, cost management, or Quantity surveying
  • MRICS
  • Good knowledge of construction industry technical matters, such as different procurement routes, value management, and value engineering
