Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a dedicated Nurse to become part of our expansive and welcoming medical practice. This role is part of a comprehensive two-year training program. The selected candidate will dedicate one day each week to academic studies at a recognized institution, pursuing a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice. Candidates must possess a nursing BSc and be available to work a minimum of 30 hours weekly, with full-time options also available. We seek personable and enthusiastic individuals who demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with our seasoned team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, managing minor illness clinics and working closely with our General Practitioners and Clinical Pharmacists as integral members of our Acute Team. Our practice is committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where all staff are appreciated, and ongoing training is provided to facilitate career advancement.

Key Responsibilities

8-10 sessions weekly

Conducting consultations via telephone, video, and in-person

Performing telephone triage

Executing home visits, including to care facilities

Collaborating with a highly supportive team of GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, and Pharmacists

Facilitating referrals to community and secondary care services

Managing a diverse range of acute and chronic health conditions

Contributing to the training of both clinical and non-clinical staff.

About Our Practice

We are a large, welcoming training practice with a robust multi-disciplinary team, including GPs, Trainee GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners, Paramedics, Clinical Pharmacists, Chronic Disease Nurses, Treatment Room Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Phlebotomists, Mental Health Practitioners, Health and Wellbeing Workers, and Social Prescribers. Our daily clinical meetings promote excellent communication and provide opportunities for multi-disciplinary discussions and learning. We have a successful track record of training and integrating Advanced Nurse Practitioners into our team, supported by dedicated mentoring from experienced colleagues and generous protected study time.

Clinical Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality patient care as an advanced clinical practitioner in a general practice setting, utilizing advanced clinical skills and a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base.

Employ expertise and decision-making abilities to guide clinical reasoning when patients present with various health issues. Utilize skills in history taking, holistic assessment, risk identification, physical examination, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making to establish diagnoses and management plans, working collaboratively with patients, families, and caregivers.

Initiate necessary diagnostic tests and interpret results effectively.

Develop, assess, and adjust a range of interventions, including lifestyle advice and health promotion strategies.

As an independent prescriber, ensure the safe and effective prescription of medications in accordance with current regulations.

Prioritize health concerns and intervene appropriately, including the initiation of emergency care when necessary.

Recognize and manage anaphylaxis in line with established guidelines.

Perform basic life support procedures in accordance with current guidelines.

Collaborate with various agencies and professionals to manage risks and issues across different settings.

Serve as a clinical role model, delivering care that is responsive to evolving health needs and informed by an understanding of local population health.

Communicate patient health statuses clearly using appropriate technology and formats.

Adhere to practice guidelines, policies, and protocols.

Leadership and Management

Proactively establish and nurture effective working relationships, clarifying roles within teams to promote productive collaboration.

Evaluate personal practice and engage in multi-disciplinary service evaluations, demonstrating the impact of advanced clinical practice on service outcomes.

Participate in peer reviews to enhance personal and team practices, implementing strategies for improvement.

Actively seek feedback from patients, families, and colleagues to co-produce service enhancements.

Exhibit leadership and resilience in managing unfamiliar or unpredictable situations.

Continuously develop practice in response to changing health needs and promote the sharing of best practices.

Contribute to the education and training of students across various disciplines.

Engage in weekly practice meetings with clinical colleagues and management.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional healthcare registration with a UK regulatory body (e.g., NMC)
  • Evidence of degree-level education (BSc or equivalent)
  • Willingness to undertake and complete a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice

  • Experience in community clinical settings
