Kendal, Cumbria, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Band 6 Adult Communication Specialist to become a vital part of our established community team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. The selected candidate will manage a diverse caseload, focusing on communication and swallowing difficulties in patients with acquired neurological conditions, alongside a broader range of cases.

Our team delivers care across various environments, including home visits, outpatient settings, and through telehealth services, while also facilitating regular communication support groups. We maintain strong collaborations with several specialized multidisciplinary teams and services.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be stationed at either Kendal or Lancaster, with flexibility in location, and will collaborate closely with team leaders to provide comprehensive care across the region.

We seek a qualified speech and language therapist who possesses the clinical expertise and autonomy to work effectively with patients facing both swallowing and communication challenges.

The new team member will join a welcoming and supportive group committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Our team actively engages with acute care therapists to exchange knowledge and enhance patient support throughout their healthcare journey.

This role offers a chance to develop leadership capabilities and contribute to service enhancement initiatives.

We provide extensive training and continuing professional development opportunities, both externally and internally, which will be supported during designated work hours. Additionally, we hold bi-monthly meetings for comprehensive team clinical supervision and service improvement discussions.

You will oversee the development of band 5 speech and language therapists, assistants, and students, with opportunities to engage in service training and development within the broader acute care team.

About Our Organization

Our operations span three primary hospitals, along with various community healthcare facilities. Each hospital offers a range of general services, including emergency care, critical care units, and specialized consultant-led services.

We are dedicated to providing a wide array of planned care, including outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, and surgical procedures, alongside local outreach services from community facilities.
