Commercial Director for HVDC Projects

At Taylor Hopkinson | Powered by Brunel, we are seeking a highly skilled Commercial & Regulatory Director Interconnectors to lead our commercial and regulatory scopes for a portfolio of HVDC development projects.
Key Responsibilities:- Secure successful Final Investment Decision (FID) for each project by working with internal and external stakeholders to optimize business case, contracting strategy, construction planning, and revenue optimization.
- Develop deep expertise in regulatory regimes in the UK (led by OFGEM) and connecting countries (led by BNetzA and CREG).
- Foster productive relationships with regulators to protect project progress and business case.
- Lead the Final Project Assessment (FPA) process in the UK and equivalent processes in connecting countries to ensure appropriate revenue regime for HVDC investments.
- Limit disallowed costs through effective commercial strategies within project development and delivery stages.
- Support positive FID in large-scale HVDC projects by presenting robust business cases and commercial risk management.
- Support procurement activities with strategic commercial input and regulatory guidance.
- Maintain ongoing alignment with internal and external teams over the life of the project.
- Own regulatory relationships with OFGEM, BNetzA, CREG, etc.
- Own and lead the FPA process in the UK and equivalent regulatory revenue regime processes in connecting countries.
- Optimize project commercial strategies to limit disallowable costs, including in the areas of contracting.
- Leverage key commercial acumen and regulatory knowledge in fast-paced, complex development projects.
- Own commercial strategy within projects and spar with internal and external stakeholders to optimize the strategy.
- Manage commercial risk across all areas of the projects.
- Support project financing requirements.
- Empower project teams to manage RFPs and procurement processes as necessary, working together with the Project Director and Investment Team to define and develop most feasible project economics.
- Communicate and report on project and investment portfolio health to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support delivery teams in commercial matters to protect project value.
- Liaise with OFGEM, BNetzA, CREG, etc., to apprise of project progress.
We are looking for a candidate with a track record of commercial expertise and regulatory engagement in large-scale infrastructure projects. Excellent communication and project/programme management skills are essential. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in economics, law, science, engineering, or a similar field is required.
